NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will host three home meets and travel as far as San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2015-16, head swimming coach Scott Cameron announced as his team revealed its schedule Monday.
"The coaching staff and our team are very excited about the upcoming season," Cameron said. "We are looking forward to swimming against some great schools throughout this season, and building throughout the year to have a great conference championship meet in February."
Illinois State will open the season with its annual Red and White Intrasquad Meet at Horton Pool on Oct. 3. The Redbirds will also host dual meets with Northern Iowa (Jan. 15) and Evansville (Jan. 22) after the holiday break.
The Redbirds will travel to the Dennis Stark Relays, hosted by Notre Dame, on Oct. 9. The squad will also compete in dual meets at Truman State (Oct. 16) and Southern Illinois (Oct. 31) early in the season. The Redbirds will compete at the three-day Louisville Invite (Nov. 20-22) before their annual training trip to Puerto Rico, which is capped by the Copa Coqui Invitational on Jan. 3.
After the home duals with UNI and Evansville, the Redbirds are back on the road at the Notre Dame Shamrock Invitational, Jan. 29-30, which will be the full squad's final tune-up before the Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Redbird divers will head to the UIC Diving Invitational on Feb. 6 for their final competition before the conference meet.
"I am very excited for this upcoming season. It's a new era for Illinois State swimming and diving, and I am happy to be a part of it," said Illinois State head diving coach Phil Hoffmann. "I believe this schedule is put together in a way that will showcase our team's talents, but also challenge the team each and every contest."
The MVC Championships will be hosted by Southern Illinois, Feb. 17-20, in Carbondale, Illinois. The NCAA Diving Zone Meet will be March 10-12 in West Lafayette, Indiana, and the NCAA Championships will run March 17-19 in Atlanta.
