NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's golf team will open the 2015-16 season by hosting the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the Weibring Golf Club Sunday and Monday.
The intercollegiate will be a three-round tournament with two rounds Sunday (36 holes) and the final round Monday (18 holes). Sunday will have an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start on the par-71 course, followed by an 8:45 a.m., shotgun start Monday.
"We are excited to get back into competition, and kicking off the season at home is an added bonus," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We have seen a number of bright spots in our practices, and we'll be looking for more of that this weekend."
Illinois State will host 17 teams, including Bradley, Butler, Central Arkansas, Detroit Mercy, Drake, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, IPFW, Loyola, Missouri State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Oakland, Southern Illinois, SIUE, Texas-Rio Grande Valley and Western Illinois.
The Redbird lineup will consist of Christian Crabill, Zach Burry, Tyler Gentilella, Trent Wallace and Steven Mullins. Jason Marrs, Kyle Meihofer, Branden Mounce and Michael Mounce will also compete in the intercollegiate as individuals.
The 2014 D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate was cut to two rounds due to weather conditions during the final round of play. Illinois State won the shortened intercollegiate with a team score of 584 (296-288), as three Redbirds finished in the top-10 and a total of six were in the top-20 on the individual leaderboard.
