ST. LOUIS – Illinois State's Tyler Morse was named Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday by the Valley.
Morse, a senior, had an impressive performance starting his 2015 campaign at the Country Financial ISU Invite, placing first in the men's 8K race. It was his first collegiate first-place finish, with a personal-best time of 24:38.2. Morse created a seven-second gap between himself and the second-place finisher.
This is the first time that Morse received MVC Athlete of the Week accolades. He is the second men's cross country runner to receive MVC Athlete of the Week honors in school history. Ryan Rutherford was the first.
The men's and women's cross country teams are back in action Sept. 25, as they travel to Peoria, Illinois, for the Bradley Classic.
