FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After the final round of the Ram Masters Invitational Tuesday, the Illinois State men's golf team finished tied for 11th place, shooting a team score of 896 (293-307-296) with elevation adjustments and tough pin locations. Freshman Trent Wallace led the Redbirds in the third and final round, shooting a 216 (72-74-70), finishing 12th on the individual leaderboard.
"Trent continued his solid play over the three rounds, and his contributions have been tremendous for us as a team," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We dug ourselves a hole right out of the gate Tuesday, but played better on the back nine, which helps going into next weekend's event at Wisconsin. We won't let this one define us and will be ready to go Sunday when we all start over at zero."
As Wallace led the way for the Redbirds, sophomore Zach Burry 226 (71-79-76) and senior Tyler Gentilella (75-77-74) followed, each carding a 226 for the tournament, and finishing tied for 52nd place on the individual leaderboard. Junior Christian Crabill (75-77-76) finished two strokes behind Burry and Gentilella, shooting a 228. Sophomore Steven Mullins carded a 238 (78-80-80), after three rounds of play.
Out of the 15 teams, ISU finished in a tie for 11th place with Abilene Christian (896), with tournament host Colorado State in first (839), followed by Kansas in second (849) and Fresno State in third (862).
The Redbirds will have a quick turnaround, as they prepare to head north to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Badger Invitational, beginning Sunday.
