KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Christoffer Greve and Rolando Torrellas won the Flight C and Flight F Singles championships, respectively, as Illinois State concluded play at the Western Michigan Vredvelt Invitational Saturday.
"I thought we finished off the tournament very well. The guys competed hard, which is always hard on the last day of the tournament," head coach Mark Klysner said. "Big congrats to Chris and Rolando who both won their
singles draws. Chris adds his second title of the fall, while Rolando, although playing now with a wrist injury, pulled his first win."
Greve defeated Charlie Emhardt of Valparaiso, 6-4, 6-3, in the Flight C Singles championship match. Torrellas bested Andre Mick of Cleveland in the Flight F Singles championship match, 6-4, 7-6 (5). In the Flight C Doubles semifinals, Dylan Steffens and Greve defeated Leopold Islinger and Matej Kostadinov of UWGB, 6-4. The Redbirds finished the Western Michigan Vredvelt Invitational with a singles record of 9-11 and a doubles mark of 3-6.
"I was very happy with how we finished, and we'll look to keep it going next week as some of the guys head to the ITA All-Americans down in Tulsa," Klysner continued.
The Redbirds will take a week off from competition before beginning play at the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 3-8, Â in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
