OMAHA, Neb. – The Illinois State men's tennis team, now 4-0, remained victorious Saturday by defeating Nebraska Omaha, 6-1, at Miracle Hill Tennis Center, wrapping up a 2-0 weekend in Omaha, Nebraska.Â
"Today we played collectively a lot better than yesterday," said head coach Mark Klysner. "Taking the doubles point was crucial in keeping the momentum going, and I think it jump-started the guys into singles. We are definitely happy to be 4-0 to start the season, but our schedule is only going to get tougher from here on out, so we'll get back to work and try and improve moving forward."Â
Illinois State started the match strong by winning the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. The first doubles match was secured by the twosome of Dylan Steffens and Christoffer Greve who bested the team of Matt Dunn and Brent McKnight, 6-1. The doubles point was clinched for the Redbirds by Jakub Eisner and partner Egehan Sertkaya who beat Erik Anderson and Alex Woodward, 7-5.Â
Greve then secured the first singles point against Anderson, 6-0, 6-1. Greve is now 4-0 in singles and doubles competition for the spring season, just like his partner Steffens, who bested John Ellis, 6-4, 6-2. Andreas Boers obtained the third singles point of the match after defeating Marko Minic, 6-1, 6-3. Â
Rodrigo Oliveira clinched the Redbird victory by topping Woodward, 6-4, 6-2. The final singles point of the day was taken by Urh Krajnc Domiter who defeated Matt Dunn of in a close set, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (12-10). Â
Now 4-0, ISU will next travel to Northern Illinois on Friday, Feb. 12. Â
