COLUMBUS, Ohio. – Andreas Boers won both of his matches in rounds one and two of qualifying singles matches on day one of the ITA Midwest Regionals. Three Redbirds participated in singles play on day one of the tournament.
Boers first defeated Michigan State's Bill Shisler 6-2, 7-5. He then went on to defeat Valparaiso's Brandon Ancona 6-4, 7-5.
"I think we had some good showings today to start the tournament," said head coach Mark Klysner. "I was very pleased to see the play of Andreas today. Winning his first two rounds was great, but I was really impressed with the level of tennis he played at. The last few weeks he has played some of his best tennis, and I expect him to carry that on for the rest of the weekend."
Egehan Sertkaya fell to Detroit Mercy's Artem Vasheshnikov 6-0, 6-1 and Peter Foersom was defeated by Detroit Mercy's Nathan Ponton 6-2, 6-1.
Play will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. with the third round of qualifying singles matches. To stay up to date on ISU men's tennis, follow them on Twitter: @RedbirdMTEN.
