Doubles Bracket | Singles Main Draws
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Marcia Tere-Apisah advanced to the singles main draw as the Illinois State women's tennis team completed the second day of the ITA Midwest Regionals Friday.
Tere-Apisah defeated Western Michigan's Olivia Myers 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Tere-Apisah advanced to the main draw and will play Michigan State's Aslina Chua Saturday at 1 p.m.
In doubles play, the Redbird duo of Tere-Apisah and Jelena Karla Vujicic defeated Milwaukee's Eszter Zador and Labina Petrovska in the first round, 8-4. The pair advanced to play Northwestern's No. 8-ranked doubles team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp, and lost, 8-3.
"Jelena Karla Vujicic and Marcia Tere-Apisah played together for the first time today and played very well," head coach Maja Kovacek said. "They established a great dynamic right away and controlled their first match from beginning to end.
"In the second-round matchup against the number eight ranked team in the nation, they came out with a great attitude. At times they went for too much early on and got too far behind to be able to come back against a quality opponent like that."
Meanwhile, Vujicic competed in the singles consolation bracket against Cleveland State's Victoria Bensimon and was defeated 7-6, 6-3. Play at the ITA Midwest Regionals continues Saturday.
