LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team completed the three-day Louisville Invite Sunday, finishing in fifth place.
Host Louisville won the meet with 2,309 points, followed by Florida International with 1,588 points. Illinois State finished the three-day meet in fifth with 750 points, coming out ahead of Wright State (459). Ohio came in third (1,081), while Southern Illinois finished in fourth (993). Â
The team of Laura Paskoff, Rachel Root, Mary Katherine Tillotson and Kristin Verkler led ISU in the 400-yard freestyle, finishing in fourth place (3:27.62). Root finished sixth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:00.97), while Karley Licking followed in 10th (2:00.95). Rachel Holm earned seventh place in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.98), as Jensen Keck came in ninth (2:18.13). Maia Cain touched the wall seventh in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.71.
"Very happy with how we competed today, and the weekend as a whole. We had numerous season and lifetime best times again today, and we continued to swim some very strong races," ISU head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "This meet was a great ending point for this point of our season, and it sets us up great as we approach our conference meet in February."
Redbird swimming and diving will have a break from competition, until competing again at the Copa Coqui Invitational in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jan. 5.
