ST. LOUIS – Illinois State's Anthony McRoberts and Amanda McClain were named Missouri Valley Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week, announced by the Valley Tuesday.
The Illinois State track and field teams posted strong performances in their season openers at the EIU Early Bird, as both men and women earned second-place finishes in the team standings. Newcomer, McRoberts, was named the MVC Male Field Athlete of the Week. He had a spectacular performance in the men's high jump as he took home the crown with a first-place finish with a cleared height of 2.08m (06-09.75). His height is leading the MVC and is ranked 20th on the NCAA Division I descending list.
McClain, Female MVC Track Athlete of the Week, had a stellar day at the EIU Early Bird. She won the women's 400-meter dash by a landslide, beating the meet record with a time of 56.45, and winning by over two seconds. Her 400-meter time is leading the Valley and is ranked fifth nationally. McClain also won the women's long jump with a mark of 5.64m (18-06.00), which is leading the MVC.
The men's and women's track and field team will be back in action on Jan. 13, as they take on Indiana State in the annual Terre Haute Double Dual Meet.
