CHICAGO – Two members of the Illinois State diving team placed among the top 10 in the 1-meter diving event Saturday at the UIC Diving Invitational, hosted by Illinois-Chicago.
The Redbirds competed against Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Lake Forest, University of Chicago, Lincoln College and host Illinois- Chicago. Each diver completed six dives at the meet.
Redbird senior Kelly Sanks captured fourth place with a total point score of 246 points, while junior Molly Schatz earned seventh place with a total point score of 237.25 points.
Sophomore Kristen Larson also competed, earning 180.80 points, placing 16th.
Illinois State head diving coach Phil Hoffmann was pleased with his team's performance.
"It was a great weekend for our divers," said Hoffmann. "They were able to put together great lists and they are in a great spot leading up to the Missouri Valley Conference Championships."
The entire swimming and diving squad will compete next at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships in two weeks, Feb. 17-20, in Carbondale, Illinois.
