NORMAL, Ill. – The ISU men's tennis team will host its first home match in over two months when the Redbirds welcome Western Illinois to the Evergreen Racquet Club this Saturday, March 26 for a 4:30 p.m. match. Before that, ISU will travel to Louisville to face the Cardinals Thursday at 12 p.m.
"I look forward to going to Louisville as we always seem to play them tough," head coach Mark Klysner said. "I know the guys believe we can beat them if we play well. We will need the entire team to play at their highest level to pull off a win, but our confidence is growing as the season continues. I think Louisville will be a good match for us. As for Saturday, it will be a fun match as we haven't played at home in quite a while. It will be nice to be able to play in front of our fans again."
ISU has a 1-4 all-time record against Louisville, while competition with Western Illinois dates back to the 1930-31 season. The Redbirds have a record of 53 wins, five losses, and one tie against the Leathernecks.
Players to watch this week are Dylan Steffens, who is currently sporting a 12-1 dual singles record to lead the team, while adding to his overall season record of 19-6. Doubles partner and teammate Christoffer Greve ranks second in dual singles victories with an 11-2 mark and an overall season record of 17-5.
The match versus Louisville is set to begin Thursday at 12 p.m. On Saturday, the Redbirds return home to face Western Illinois at 4:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Racquet Club. Admission is free to all men's and women's tennis matches.
