LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Illinois State men's tennis team faced a tough Louisville team on Thursday, losing, 5-2, in Louisville, Kentucky.
"I am very proud of how my guys played today," said head coach
Mark Klysner. "We competed on every court until the last point. Any time you can win a couple of matches against an ACC opponent, it shows we can play with anyone. It literally came down to a let court in singles and a let court in No. 3 doubles. If we could've pulled those off, we would've won. We will now just turn our attention to Saturday's competition against Western Illinois and be ready for that."
Illinois State fell behind, 1-0, early after dropping the doubles point despite a win in No. 1 doubles with
Andreas Boers and
Jakub Eisner over the opposing duo of Jeffrey Brown and C. Morin-Kougoucheff, 6-1.
Christoffer Greve and
Dylan Steffens may have been unsuccessful in doubles today, but did not disappoint in singles competition, earning ISU's two points over Louisville. Steffens recorded the Redbird point by beating challenger Courtney Lock in the first two sets, 6-1, 7-5. Greve finished the last singles match of the day, earning the second point for ISU over Brandon Lancaster in a tie-breaking third set, 6-3, 6-7, 1-0. Steffens and Greve added on to their already impressive dual singles records for the season; Steffens leads the team with a 15-1 mark, while Greve follows closely at 13-3.
Now 7-10, the Redbirds will prepare to play Western Illinois at the Evergreen Racquet Club, Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
