Redbirds Conclude ORU Shootout in Sixth-Place Tie

Final Round Results

TULSA, Okla. – The Illinois State men's golf team concluded the ORU Shootout, hosted by Oral Roberts, Tuesday at the par-72 Forest Ridge Golf Club with a final-round score of 304. ISU finished with a score of 914 (297-313-304), which was good enough for a sixth-place tie in the 11-team field, and freshman Trent Wallace finished in 14th place on the overall leaderboard, as he carded an 8-over-par 224 (72-78-74). Arkansas State won the tournament with a 12-over-par 876 (294-289-293).

"This was a very disappointing end to the regular season, even more so after starting the tournament in such strong fashion," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We were leading deep into the first round, before unforced errors and big numbers plagued us again."

Wallace's 2-over-par 74 paced the Redbirds in the final round, while junior Christian Crabill posted his second 4-over-par 76 of the tournament to finish with a 235 (76-83-76). Rounding out the team scoring for ISU in the final round was senior Tyler Gentilella and sophomore Zach Burry, as the duo both shot 5-over-par 77's. Overall, Gentilella finished with the Redbirds' second-best score with a 229 (71-81-77), and Burry was right behind with a 231 (78-76-77).

Freshman Michael Mounce shot an 81 in the final round, and his score did not count towards the team's overall total for the round. He finished the tournament with a 243 (84-78-81).

"We have shown glimpses of the potential we have as a team throughout the year, but we are clearly not where we want to be," Kralis said. "While our lack of consistency remains an issue, it is important that we stay patient considering the bulk of our starting lineup is made up of underclassmen. We need to learn some lessons from this and make the most of the next couple weeks as we prepare to compete at the MVC Championship."

The Redbirds will now have 13 days off until they travel to Hutchinson, Kansas to participate in the MVC Championship, April 25-26.
