NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team returns home for its final match of the spring season, as the Redbirds face Drake Saturday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts. The Redbirds will also be celebrating senior day on Saturday for graduating players Rolando Torrellas, Jakub Eisner and Rodrigo Oliveira.
"This is a big weekend for us," head coach Mark Klysner said. "We get to play our final match of the season at home and it's against the No. 46 ranked team in the nation, Drake. Most importantly, it is senior day, and we will celebrate the final regular season matches for Jakub, Rodrigo and Rolando. We hope for a nice turnout to support the guys and our three seniors."
ISU has a history with Drake dating back to the 1945-46 season, and the Redbirds carry a 9-26 record against the No. 46 ranked team in the nation. The Drake Bulldogs currently sport a 15-9 record for the spring season, with a 4-5 record on the road. The Redbirds are 3-0 at home this season, with an 8-13 mark for the spring campaign. ISU is 0-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Drake is 1-0.
'Birds to watch this weekend are the duo of Dylan Steffens and Christoffer Greve. Steffens is currently sporting a 17-2 dual singles record to lead the team, while adding to his overall season record of 24-7. Doubles partner and teammate Greve ranks second in dual singles victories, with a 14-5 mark, and an overall season record of 20-8.
