Root Named CoSIDA Academic All-District Selection

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State's Rachel Root, a member of the school's swimming and diving team, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) women's at-large Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Thursday.

Root was named to the District 5 NCAA Division I team, which includes all at-large student-athletes competing at the Division I level in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Root was the only swimming and diving student-athlete on the District 5 team.

Root will now be on the ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, which will be announced June 9.

The junior from Monroe, Wisconsin, owns a perfect 4.00 grade-point average (GPA) as a communication science disorders major.

Root is a two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference First-Team selection and two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete First-Team pick. At last year's conference meet, she won the league's Elite 18 Award, honoring the student-athlete at a league championship with the highest GPA. Root has been named to the Illinois AFNI and MVC academic honor rolls each possible year and semester, and has earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award the past two years.

Also a standout in the pool, Root owns four school records, including all three backstroke records. She has earned three top-three finishes at the MVC Championships during her career.
