Wallace Bounces Back in Season’s Final Round at Kohler Regional

Final Round Results

KOHLER, Wis. – Illinois State men's golfer Trent Wallace wrapped up a very successful freshman campaign Wednesday at the NCAA Kohler Regional. He carded a 2-over-par 74 in the third and final round to finish in a five-way tie for 55th place with an 8-over 224 (72-78-74) at Blackwolf Run's Meadow Valleys Course.

For the second day in row, Wallace started his round on the back nine. He produced eight pars and one birdie, which came at the par-5 11th, as he fired a 1-under-par 35 over his first nine holes. Wallace then moved to the front nine and shot a 3-over-par 39, with six pars.

"Trent played very well today hitting a number of quality shots, but unfortunately, he burned the edges most of the day and wasn't able to get much out of a round that could have been pretty special," head coach Ray Kralis said. "He did a nice job of staying patient and in the present, which you have to do on a championship set up like this one. I was proud of the way he competed and handled himself, and the lessons learned from this experience will serve him well going forward."

Illinois finished in first place on the team leaderboard, after entering the final round in second. The Fighting Illini shot 7-under-par Wednesday to finish at 11-under-par (853). Florida and Arkansas tied for second at 7-under-par (857), and Florida State and Baylor tied for fourth at 6-under-par (858). All five teams advanced to the National Championship in Eugene, Oregon, which will be held May 27 – June 1.

Ohio State's Tee-k Kelly was the top individual out of the field of 75, as he shot a 3-under-par 69 in the final round to finish with a 7-under-par 209 (70-70-69). Kelly will also compete in the National Championship.
