NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State J.D. LaFayette has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District™ Men's Track & Field and Cross Country First Team.
LaFayette, a sophomore from Normal, Ill., carries a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in computer science. He won the 800-meter run at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship with a time of 1:52.26 and he earned All-Valley honor in the distance medley relay as the team placed third with a time of 10:03.76. He was Missouri Valley Conference Elite 18 Award recipient.
All honorees of first-team selection will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be selected in June.
LaFayette will compete in the first round men's 800-meter run at the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round today at 8:35 p.m.
