Men's Golf Announces 2016-17 Schedule

Complete Schedule

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's golf team has released its schedule for the 2016-17 season, it was announced Wednesday by head coach Ray Kralis.

The Redbirds will compete in 10 tournaments and 12 events overall. ISU is slated to play in four tournaments during the fall, which takes place in September and October, before participating in six more tournaments and two matches in the spring, which starts in late January. All 10 tournaments will be 54-hole events.

The season begins Sept. 11-13 in Madison, Wisconsin, at the Badger Invitational. Six days later, the Redbirds fly west to Fort Collins, Colorado, to compete at Colorado State's Ram Masters Invitational, Sept. 19-20. After a two-week hiatus, ISU returns to action at Akron's Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, Oct. 5-6, before concluding the fall season later in the week at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Golf Classic in Notre Dame, Indiana, Oct. 9-11.

The annual Tinervin Cup with Illinois tees off the spring portion of the schedule, as the two rivals will match up against each other Jan. 28 in Placida, Fla. The Redbirds will have a little over three weeks off until they travel back down south to Mobile, Alabama, to compete at South Alabama's Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, Feb. 20-21.

A second trip to Florida will have ISU traveling to Tallahassee, March 10-12, to play at Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate. The Redbirds will then navigate west to Dallas, Texas, to participate in Oral Roberts' Bob Sitton Invitational, March 14-16.

Weibring Golf Club will finally see some action with the annual I-74 Challenge, March 25, with Bradley. ISU then starts April in Bloomington, Indiana, at Indiana's Hoosier Invitational, April 1-2. Eight days later, the Redbirds will use their final tune up before the Missouri Valley Conference Championship when they travel to Columbia, Missouri, for Missouri's Tiger Invitational, April 10-11.

ISU will stay in Illinois for the MVC Championship, which will be hosted by Loyola at Cog Hill Country Club, April 24-25, in Lemont.

"We have big dreams in our program, and the strength of our schedule gives us an opportunity to make them come true," Kralis said. "With the high level of competition we'll see throughout next season, it is easy to get excited about the 2016-17 schedule. It will not only provide a tremendous competitive experience for the student-athletes, but I believe the competition will also make us stronger. We'll see programs from a number of top conferences, including the Big Ten, ACC and SEC, which will provide the tests we need to grow and develop as well as the opportunities to make a statement about who we are as a team."
