AUSTIN, Texas – Illinois State men's track and field member, J.D. LaFayette, has been named the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country third team selection announced by the organization on Friday.
LaFayette, a Normal, Illinois native carries a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average in computer science. Of the 45 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Men's Track & Field/Cross Country team members, 26 have grade-point averages of 3.90 or higher, including nine who have a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. During this season, the sophomore was the Missouri Valley Conference men's Elite 18 award winner, and was a member of the MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team.
LaFayette is equally successful on the track, as he is the MVC Indoor 800-meter run Champion and holds the second-fastest indoor time in school history and the third-fastest outdoor time. His personal-best 800-meter time is 1:49.08, which was posted at the 37th Annual Sun Angel Classic (April 9). LaFayette also is a NCAA Division I West Preliminary Round Qualifier in the 800-meter run.
