TULSA, Okla. – Competing against some of the nation's top collegiate athletes at the ITA All-American Championships, the Illinois State men's tennis team battled, but ultimately fell short in the pre-qualifying singles rounds Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Following a successful weekend at the WMU Vredevelt Invitational, Manuel Bernhard came up short against Marquette's Alvaro Verdo, 7-6(6), 6-3, in the round of 64. Igor Kolaric fell by Oklahoma's James Davis, 6-3, 6-1.
The Redbird's suffered two more losses in the round with Andreas Boers losing to Wichita's Andrea Caligiana, 6-3, 6-4, and Cameron Petersen forcing three sets before falling to Nebraska's Linus Erhart, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Christoffer Greve dropped a match to San Diego's Santiago Cerallos in the round of 128.
The Redbirds will be back in action on Monday to compete in the qualifying rounds of doubles at the ITA All-American Championships.
