LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Doubles team, Igor Kolaric and Egehan Sertkaya led the Illinois State men's tennis on the second day of the Louisville Invitational by advancing to the doubles flight A consolation semifinal, but ultimately came up short to Wright State to wrap up competition in Louisville, Kentucky.
"We had some good results today," head coach Mark Klysner said. "Our doubles went well, but we definitely need to play more aggressively and play the big points better."
Despite falling short in the first round of the flight A doubles to Lipscomb's Alejandro Manzanares and Victor Chaw, Kolaric and Sertkaya defeated Butler's Lope Adelakun and Adrian Mag, 6-3, to advance to the consolation semifinal. The pair dropped the semifinal match to Wright State's Michal Kianicka and Marcel Ueltzhoeffer, 6-3.
Manuel Bernhard and Cameron Petersen began the second flight of doubles with an 8-7 victory over Xavier's Jan Vrba and Matthew Graft. However, the duo came up short in the second round Lipscomb's Jorge Ortegon and Daniel Cardenas by the same score.
After a first round bye, Brandon Lew and Butler's Addison Cazier teamed up in flight C, but could not overcome Luke Wiese and Jan Jirus from Ball State, 8-5.
"Singles was positive as the guys played some quality tennis and shout out to our freshman, Bernhard, who had a great win over a very high ranked player," Klysner said.
After a pair of singles wins on Friday to advance to semifinal of flight C, Sertkaya fell to Xavier's Mike Lee, 6-2, 6-2. Bernhard topped Toledo's Thawin Sukksathaporn in a tight three-set match.
The Redbirds return to action Oct. 19 through Oct. 23 to compete in the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
