ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Illinois State men's tennis team will head to the University of Michigan to compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, Thursday through Monday in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
"This is always a great tournament to take part in for the guys who got invited, it rewards them for their positive results for this fall season so far," said head coach Mark Klysner.
Andreas Boers, Christoffer Greve, Igor Kolaric and Egehan Sertkaya will represent the Redbirds this weekend.
Greve will face Michigan State's Jack Winkler in the first round of qualifying singles. Boers will take on Michigan State's John Carlin. Kolaric and Sertkaya will be competing in the qualifying doubles on Friday.
Tournament play will commence Thursday at 8 a.m. with the first round of qualifying singles, followed by the second round of qualifying singles.
Friday's competition begins at 8 a.m. and consists of the final round of qualifying singles and the first round of main draw singles. The first round of main draw doubles will also take place on Friday.
Saturday will consist of the round of 32 and the round of 16 for both singles and doubles starting at 9 a.m.
The quarterfinal round of singles and doubles will be played out on Sunday at 10 a.m. The semifinal round of doubles will be played if time is permitted.
Competition will wrap up Monday with the semifinal round of singles beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the final round of singles and doubles.
Last weekend, the Redbirds competed in the Louisville Fall Invitational. The team went 5-6 in singles play on the weekend. Doubles play was led by the duo of Kolaric and Sertkaya, who advanced to the Flight A Consolation semifinal, before coming up short to Wichita State.Â
Illinois State will host the Redbird Invitational Nov.3 through Nov. 4 in Normal, Illinois. The tournament will be held at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts, if weather permits. Admission will be free.
