Redbirds Take on UMKC for the First Time in Program History

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team returns home on Sunday to take on the Roos of UMKC.

The Series – This is the first time in program history that the Redbirds face UMKC. It is also the first time head coach Kristen Gillespie and UMKC head coach Jacie Hoyt meet on the court.

Redbirds – What you need to know

The Redbirds enter the game after facing a tough loss to George Mason on Wednesday. The team hustled to take a lead at the conclusion of the first quarter, but fell behind in the second and could not overcome the deficit. Senior Hannah Green had a notable game as she secured a double-double and added five blocks for the Redbirds. The Redbirds are 0-2 on the road and 1-0 at home this season.

Key Players

Senior Hannah Green racked up a double-double against George Mason on Wednesday with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She went 2-for-5 at the three-point line and added five blocks for the Redbirds.

Sophomore Megan Talbot began a double point streak on Wednesday as she added 12 points for the Redbirds and 17 points in the game prior against Northern Kentucky. Last season, Talbot had a career high of 12 points. This year the sophomore averages12.7 points per game.

Roos – What you need to know

The Roos are winless and look to capture a victory under first- year head coach Jacie Hoyt. The team most recently fell 61-45 to Iowa State on Monday. The Roos have finished behind by 15 or more points in each game this season. They have yet to play a game at home and are 0-4 on the road.

Key Players

Samantha Waldron and Kristen Moore were both named to the all-WAC preseason second-team. Moore leads her team in rebounds, averaging 6.5 per game and is a top scorer with 14.5 points per game. Samantha has started every game this season and leads her team in steals with nine.

Senior Aries Washington is the leading scorer for the Roos with 64 points this season, averaging 16 points per game.
