NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team has added to its roster, as head diving coach Phil Hoffmann announced the signing of Caroline Lecoeur, a French springboard diver, on Monday. Lecoeur will join the team for the second half of the 2017-18 season, beginning against Northern Iowa, Friday, Jan. 19 at Horton Pool.
"I am deeply honored to have a diver, with the resume like Caroline's, join the Redbird Swimming and Diving program," head diving coach Phil Hoffmann said. "The opportunity to add a diver of her level does not come along very often. She brings an International and national team resume to Illinois State University, something that I have no doubt will help to take our program to greater heights. When I first saw her diving, I knew that there was something special. She is highly talented already, but I truly believe her best days are ahead. She wants to come in and help lead Illinois State to the next level, while at the same time reaching her Olympic aspirations back home in France. I am excited to take this journey with her."
Lecoeur has been a member of the French Junior National diving team since 2012. Since she began diving at age seven, she has won roughly 30 national titles. At the 2016 Winter Senior Nationals she earned her first senior title in the 1-meter dive, as well as a silver medal in the 2016 Summer Senior Nationals. Â
She has competed in four European Junior Championships, and was a member of the French Olympic team for the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2015. Lecoeur earned nine medals in five International Junior Diving meets (six gold and three silver).
