IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois State swimming and diving team stands in sixth place after the first two events at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships Wednesday night at the University of Iowa Aquatic Center.
The relay team of Laura Paskoff, Savannah Rubocki, Mary Katherine Tillotson and Kristin Verkler finished fourth in the 800-yard freestyle relay, with a time of 7:27.83.
Illinois State's top 200-yard medley relay team, consisting of Maia Cain, Molly Hill, Jensen Keck and Rachel Root, was disqualified in the first event of the night.
"We came out swimming fast across all of our relays and it's setting us up for a great week," ISU head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "It was a tough break on the 200 medley relay, but we rallied well and swam a great 800 free relay. All in all, a solid start to the meet."
The Redbird diving team will begin competition Thursday.
The MVC Championships will resume Thursday at 11 a.m.
