NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team will travel Sunday to compete against in-state foe Eastern Illinois in Danville, Illinois, at 1 p.m. The Redbirds will take on the Panthers at the REX Darling Tennis Courts.
Illinois State, now 4-5 this season, last competed on Feb.19, at home against Chicago State. The Redbirds swept the Cougars, 7-0. ISU still has not yet competed in Missouri Valley Conference play.
Eastern Illinois (6-1) last competed 11 days ago against Illinois, when the Panthers suffered their first dual-match loss of the season, 7-0. The Panthers compete Friday against Saint Francis (Illinois).
Last season when these two rivals met, Illinois State defeated Eastern Illinois, 5-2, on the Redbirds' previous home courts located at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois.
"It's imperative we start the match well in doubles and play well in all three spots," said Illinois State head coach Maja Kovacek. "That's something we didn't consistently do this year and it has proved costly in a couple of close matches."
Including the match against the Panthers, the Redbirds will be on the road for the next 10 matches before returning home in April and beginning MVC play.
