EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Illinois State women's basketball team (7-20, 4-12 MVC) continues its three-game Missouri Valley Conference road swing Sunday against eighth-place Evansville (10-16, 5-10), with tipoff slated for 1 p.m. inside the Ford Center. The Redbirds can sweep the season series and tie Evansville in the win column of the conference standings with a victory, while the Purple Aces look to clinch at least the eighth seed in the conference tournament with a win.
THE SERIES:
Illinois State and Evansville are meeting for the 49th time in series history, dating back to Jan. 14, 1995, when the Purple Aces joined the conference. The Redbirds won the first-ever meeting, 83-58, inside Redbird Arena, which started an eight-game win streak in the series. Illinois State leads the all-time series, 30-18, including a 17-5 mark on the road. The Redbirds swept the regular-season series last season, but Evansville won the third meeting, 61-59, in overtime at the conference tournament. Illinois State got revenge last month when it pulled away for a 71-58 victory inside Redbird Arena.
THE COACHES:
Illinois State: Barb Smith (Ohio State, 1986) is in her fourth season as the head coach at Illinois State and has the Redbirds off to a 7-20 record over the first 27 games for the second-consecutive season.
Evansville: Matt Ruffing (Dayton, 2007) was named the head coach Dec. 21, 2016. He assumed head coaching duties on an interim basis from March through December before earning the full time position, after five years as an assistant coach.
ILLINOIS STATE:
The Redbirds, who were picked to finish eighth in the Missouri Valley Conference, are 4-12 in MVC play under Barb Smith. Senior Brechelle Beachum leads the team in scoring at 11.9 points per game and also paces the squad with 62 steals. Fellow classmate Taylor Stewart adds 11.6 points per game and leads the team in made 3-pointers (50) and assists (59). Sophomore Viria Livingston leads the team on the glass with 5.8 rebounds per game, and junior Hannah Green averages a team-best 2.9 blocks per game.
EVANSVILLE:
Picked to finish ninth in the 10-team MVC, the Purple Aces sit in eighth place and have won two conference games in a row, after dropping six straight beginning with a loss at Illinois State last month. Evansville features the powerful duo of Sara Dickey and Camary Williams. Dickey averages 14.8 and 3.7 rebounds per game while leading the team with 54 triples (out of 174, 31.0). Williams averages 14.6 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game. She also has the third-most steals in the nation with 106, and her 4.08 steals per game ranks second in the country. Williams has also made the 47th most free throws in the country (114-of-163), with the attempts ranked as the 30th most in nation.

For the fourth time this season, the Redbirds shot over 40 percent from the field when they finished with their second-highest percentage of 44.7 percent in the loss to Southern Illinois. Illinois State is 1-3 when shooting over 40 percent, with its only victory last month against Evansville when the Redbirds shot 44.6 percent. Illinois State shot 45.1 percent against Milwaukee and 44.3 percent against SIUE.
GREEN FEELING BETTER
Junior Hannah Green, who has been battling a knee injury, looked more comfortable in the game at Southern Illinois, as she scored 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field. She made her first six field goals, which tied a season high, and added four rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES
Senior Taylor Stewart, the Redbirds' second-leading scorer, has already tallied 313 points and swished 50 triples this season, already surpassing her junior year totals of 154 points and 26 made three-pointers. She also scored her 700th career point against Wichita State and now has 729 for her career. Fellow classmate Brechelle Beachum, who scored 89 points last season, has tallied 320 this year and went over the 400-point mark for her career Friday.
WATCH YOUR BACK WITH BEACHUM
Senior Brechelle Beachum leads the team with 62 steals, doubling her total of 31 from a year ago. She has at least one steal in every game but two (failed to record one three games ago at Northern Iowa), two or more in 17 contests and three or more in 11 games. Beachum has also recorded four or more steals four times, including Super Bowl Sunday against Loyola Chicago and last time out against Southern Illinois, with the other two times finishing with a career-high six thefts (at Loyola Chicago, vs Evansville). Beachum ranks 62nd in the country in total steals (62) and 73rd in steals per game (2.3). She is top-four in the MVC in both categories.
STEWART'S THREE-POINT SHOOTING
Senior Taylor Stewart became the 23rd player in program history to make at least 40 triples in a season when she recorded 39-41 in the win over Evansville. She then became the 19th player to make 50 3-pointers in a season when she drilled one against Missouri State last time out. Her 50 makes are the most since Maggie Krick knocked down 50 during the 2007-08 season. Stewart also has 159 3-point field goal attempts this season, which is the 11th most in single-season history, and now has 91 career 3-pointers, which ranks in a 13th-place tie in program history. She needs nine more to become the 12th Redbird to tally at least 100. Her 326 attempts ranks 11th all time.
SEASON REJECTIONS
The Redbirds are the top shot-blocking team in the conference, averaging 4.2 blocks per game, which ranks 68th in the country, and have accumulated the most blocks in the league with 114, which ranks 73rd in the nation. The 114 total blocks is currently the seventh-highest total in single-season history, while the current average of 4.2 blocks is the second-best ever for a season in program history. The 2008-09 team has the record with 4.3 blocks per game.
GREEN'S REJECTIONS
Junior Hannah Green has recorded a block in every game but two, double-digit rejections in every game but three, and three or more in 12 contests. She also has four or more in six games, including the most in program history (8), and the second most in program history (7). For the season, she is averaging 2.91 blocks per game, which leads the conference and ranks 10th in the nation, while her 64 total blocks also leads the league and ranks 24th in the country. Green also has the fourth-most in single-season program history and the eight most in the history of the program. She needs 15 more rejections to become the program's all-time leader for blocks in a season (Nicolle Lewis, 78, 2008-09).
JAILBIRDS
The Redbirds are lucky no one was locked up after their win over Loyola Chicago, as Illinois State recorded a season-high 14 steals, breaking their previous season best of 12 in the win over Evansville. The Redbirds racked up 11 more steals in the win over Wichita State and 11 more in the loss to Missouri State, the seventh time this season Illinois State has registered double-digit thefts, dropping its record to 5-2 in such contests.
KATRINA CONNECTS ON NEW CAREER HIGH
Sophomore Katrina Beck scored a career-high 20 points and knocked down six field goals to tie a career best in the win over Wichita State. She also made 8-of-11 free throws, including a pair with 1.1 seconds to seal the win. Beck also added eight rebounds and three steals in one of the best efforts of her career. Over her last three home games, Beck is 20-of-26 (76.9 percent) at the charity stripe.
TAYLOR TALLIES 700TH CAREER POINT
In the first quarter of last Friday night's victory over Wichita State, senior Taylor Stewart scored her 700th career point and now has 729. She finished the contest with 19 points, a game-high four assists and two steals.
NO BENCH, NO PROBLEM
The Redbirds failed to produce a single point from the bench in their win over Wichita State. Sophomore Katrina Beck and senior Taylor Stewart combined for 39 of Illinois State's 54 points.

Illinois State held Wichita State to 28.3 percent shooting from the field, the lowest percentage a team has shot against the Redbirds this season.
SHOOTING MORE FREE THROWS THAN OPPONENT CRUCIAL
The Redbirds improved to 5-2 on the season in the win over Wichita State when they shoot more free throws than their opponent. The previous home contest against Loyola Chicago Super Bowl Sunday saw Illinois State go to the line a season-high 37 times and tied a season best in makes with 26. The Redbirds finished 15-of-22 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter against the Ramblers.
NEW GLASS LEADER
Sophomore Viria Livingston took over the team lead in rebounding after her 10-rebound performance at Northern Iowa. She is now averaging 5.8 caroms per game and is averaging 7.0 rebounds per game over the last nine contests and 7.3 over the last six. Livingston pulled down nine more rebounds in the win over Wichita State.
FINALLY A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Sophomore Viria Livingston recorded the Redbirds' first double-double of the season when she scored a season-high 12 points and grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds to go along with team highs of three assists and two steals at Northern Iowa. The double-double was the second one of Livingston's career.
TALBOT TALLIES TEN
Freshman Megan Talbot tallied 10 points at Northern Iowa, the fourth time this season she has scored in double-figures.
CORRIGAN THROWS MINI BLOCK PARTY
Freshman Frannie Corrigan rejected a season-high three shots at Northern Iowa, giving her five on the season. She also added five rebounds and a steal in 23 minutes of action off the bench - the most minutes she has played since recording 25 in a start at SIUE Dec. 23 (the last of her five starts this year).
STEVENS BOARDING
Over the six games prior to Drake, sophomore Millie Stevens was averaging 7.7 rebounds per game off the bench, including a career-high 10 in the win over Evansville.
BEACHUM SCORES OVER 20 FOR THE FOURTH TIME
Senior Brechelle Beachum poured in a game-high 23 points, including 20 after halftime, with 10 coming in both the third and fourth quarters, to lead the Redbirds to a come-from-behind victory over Loyola Chicago. Beachum knocked down 7-of-16 field goals and finished 8-of-14 from the charity stripe, establishing a new career high in free throw attempts and tying her career high in makes. She also added a game-high four steals as well over 37 minutes, which tied a career high in minutes played. The Redbirds are also 3-1 when Beachum scores over 20 points in a game.
BECK'S NEW (NOW OLD) CAREER SCORING HIGH
Sophomore Katrina Beck scored a career-high 19 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, in the win over Loyola Chicago. She went to the free throw line a career-high 14 times and knocked down a career-best 12 free throws. Beck also added seven rebounds and three steals.
LIVINGSTON LETTING LOOSE ON THE GLASS
Sophomore Viria Livingston, who returned to the starting lineup, grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the win over Loyola Chicago while playing a season-best 35 minutes.
SECOND-HALF AND FOURTH-QUARTER SCORING
The Redbirds scored a season-high 45 points in the second half - their most points in a half - in the victory over Loyola Chicago. Illinois State also scored 31 points in the fourth quarter, which is the most the Redbirds have tallied in a stanza all season, breaking the previous high of 29 in the third quarter at SIUE. Illinois State's previous high for a half was 44 points in the second half in the win over Evansville.
MORE FOURTH-QUARTER SCORING
When the Redbirds scored 31 points in the fourth quarter against Loyola Chicago, they nearly matched their total of 32 over the first three quarters.
TYING LARGEST DEFICIT OVERCOME
Illinois State overcame its largest deficit of the season (10) to win a game for the second time this season in the victory over Loyola Chicago. The Redbirds trailed, 28-18, with 7:18 to go in the third quarter. Illinois State also trailed Evansville by 10, before rallying in the second half to clinch the victory.
A SECOND WIN WHEN TRAILING AT THE HALF
The Redbirds won only their second game when trailing at the half this season in the victory over Loyola Chicago, improving their record to 2-13. Illinois State was down 24-18 at the break and eventually trailed by 10 early in the third quarter.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
Illinois State won the rebounding battle for the seventh time this season when they pulled down a season-high 48 caroms, including a season-best 20 on the offensive glass, in the win over Loyola Chicago (finished with 40 rebounds). The Redbirds improved their record to 4-3 when they outrebound their opponent.
STEVENS SPARKS THE BENCH
Sophomore Millie Stevens came off the bench to score 12 points (sharing game-high honors with senior Brechelle Beachum) on 5-of-8 shooting and grab eight rebounds over 29 minutes of action against Southern Illinois. She followed that performance with a near double-double of nine points and a team-high nine rebounds versus Indiana State.
STEWART SELECTED TO WBCA'S "SO YOU WANT TO BE A COACH" CLASS
Senior Taylor Stewart was one of 60 women's basketball student-athletes selected from across the nation to participate in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's 15th annual "So You Want to Be a Coach" program. All 60 members of this year's class will participate in a three-day workshop held March 29-31 in conjunction with the WBCA Convention in Dallas, Texas.
The objectives of the "So" program are to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
"So" participants will learn about recruiting, the administrative side to coaching, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules, and how to balance work and life.
Qualified candidates must have exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or have graduated within the past year. In addition, the candidate's head coach has to nominate them and must be an active WBCA member. Each participant is selected based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and a written recommendation from their head coach.

Freshman Megan Talbot just missed a double-double against Southern Illinois when she finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. She also knocked down a season-high five field goals (on seven attempts) en route to scoring in double digits for the third time this season.

For the sixth time this season, and for the third game in a row, the Redbirds won the rebounding battle, as they outrebounded Southern Illinois, 43-38, dropping their record to 3-3 when they outrebound their opponent.
PARTY FOR 20
In the win over Evansville, seniors Brechelle Beachum and Taylor Stewart became the first duo to each score 20 or more points in a game since Nov. 29, 2013, when Chloe Nelson (26 points) and Alexis Foley (21 points) accomplished the feat against Florida. Beachum scored 21 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter, while Stewart finished with 20 (10 each half) on 7-of-12 shooting. Both Redbirds also dished out a game-high four assists.
VIRIA VEERING RIGHT
Sophomore Viria Livingston, who has been fighting the injury bug this season, produced a season-high nine points and six rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench in the win over Evansville.
SECOND-HALF SCORING AND SHOOTING
The Redbirds scored a then season-high 44 points in the second half, which was their most points in a half, in the win over Evansville while shooting 51.9 percent (14-of-27), including 8-of-13 (61.5) percent in the fourth quarter. Illinois State's previous high was 43 points in the second half when the Redbirds shot a season-best 53.1 percent in the second half at Missouri State.
REDBIRDS WIN REBOUDNING BATTLE FOR A FIFTH TIME
For just the fifth time this season, the Redbirds won the rebounding battle, as they outrebounded Evansville, 38-33, to improve their record to 3-2 when they outrebound their opponent.
LARGEST DEFICIT OVERCOME
Illinois State overcame its largest deficit of the season (10) to win a game in the victory over Evansville. The Redbirds trailed, 31-21, with 2:19 to go before halftime. Illinois State also overcame its largest second-half deficit of eight (45-37) when the Redbirds trailed the Purple Aces with 5:33 remaining in the third quarter. Illinois State's previous accomplishment was when the rallied from nine down in the first half to beat Eastern Illinois Dec. 1
FINALLY A WIN WHEN TRAILING AT THE HALF
The Redbirds finally won a game when trailing at the half this season in the victory over Evansville, improving their record to 1-11. Illinois State was down 31-27 at the break, which tied for their second-smallest halftime deficit of the season (at Indiana State).
BEACHUM JUST MISSES 20
Senior Brechelle Beachum scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting at Wichita State. The point total at the time was her third highest of the season, the made field goals was her second highest, and her field goal percentage (53.3) was her second highest (minimum seven attempts). Beachum also added a game-high three steals and a team-best two assists.
REDBIRDS WIN REBOUDNING BATTLE FOR A FOURTH TIME
For just the fourth time this season, the Redbirds won the rebounding battle, as they outrebounded Wichita State, 34-29.
STEWART SINKS PROGRAM'S 3-POINT GAME RECORD
Senior Taylor Stewart, who already tied the program record for most 3-pointers in a game with seven earlier this season against Valparaiso, etched herself at the top of the record books Friday at Missouri State, as she swished a program-record eight triples (on 11 attempts) en route to scoring a career-high 28 points and making a career-best 10 field goals (on 18 attempts). The eight 3-pointers also set a JQH Arena record and was the most ever against Missouri State. Stewart also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
GREEN TIES PROGRAM'S BLOCKS GAME RECORD
Junior Hannah Green, who already has rejected the second-most shots in a game (7) earlier this season against Milwaukee, tied the program record of eight Friday at Missouri State, with five coming in the first half. Green tied former Redbird Leslie Ferrell, who also rejected eight shots at Missouri State, which occurred Feb. 8, 1988. Green also added eight points, six rebounds and a season-high four assists in the contest.
BEACHUM AND STEVENS PROVIDE BOOST OFF THE BENCH
Senior Brechelle Beachum and sophomore Millie Stevens produced nice games off the bench at Missouri State. Beachum scored 13 points, with nine coming in the third quarter, and made 3-of-5 from downtown to tie a career high in made triples while recording a game-high three steals. Stevens grabbed nine rebounds to tie a career high.
FINDING THE OPEN MAN
Illinois State dished out a season-high 19 assists at Missouri State and failed to achieve an assist only four times on its 23 field goals.

The Redbirds knocked down a season-high 12 3-pointers (on 24 attempts), as they finished at a season-best 50 percent. Illinois State made 5-of-6 in the third quarter and 9-of-15 in the second half.
10 BLOCKS PART DEUX
For the second time this season, Illinois State rejected 10 shots, with the second time coming at Missouri State (first time coming against Milwaukee). The 10 blocked shots ties the record for third-most blocks in a game, which has now happened five times.
TALBOT RETURNS TO STARTING LINEUP VERSUS DRAKE
Freshman Megan Talbot returned to the starting lineup against Drake to make her ninth start of the season and first since New Year's Day versus Bradley. She finished the game with two points and three rebounds in 20 minutes.
LIVINGSTON RETURNS TO STARTING LINEUP VERSUS NORTHERN IOWA
Sophomore Viria Livingston returned to the starting lineup against Northern Iowa to make her fifth start of the season and first since Nov. 22 versus Yale. She finished the game with six points and a team-high six rebounds in 27 minutes.
BATTLE ON THE BOARDS WON FOR A THIRD TIME
Illinois State won the rebounding battle for only the third time this season in the loss at Indiana State, which was the first time this year the Redbirds have dropped a game when collecting more caroms. Illinois State held a 43-29 advantage on the glass in the game.
UNCHARACTERISTIC REDBIRDS AT INDIANA STATE
The Redbirds uncharacteristically turned the ball over 29 times and committed 26 fouls in the loss at Indiana State, both season highs. Illinois State also had the ball stolen away a season-high 17 times as well.
TALBOT EFFECTIVE OFF THE BENCH AT INDIANA STATE
Freshman Megan Talbot, who started eight straight games from Nov. 26 - Jan. 1, has come off the bench in the last two contests, but she was much more effective at Indiana State when she led the way with a team-high 12 points - second time this season she has scored in double figures - on 4-of-7 shooting, which tied a season-high in made field goals, and added four rebounds, a season-best two steals and a block in 25 minutes.
STEWART JUST MISSES FIRST CAREER DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Senior Taylor Stewart just missed her first career double-double when she recorded nine points and a season-high nine rebounds at Indiana State. Over the two-game sample over the weekend, Stewart averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.
CAREER SCORING AND SHOOTING NIGHT FOR STEWART AT LOYOLA CHICAGO
Senior Taylor Stewart poured in a career-high 25 points, including 16 after halftime, and made a career-best eight field goals (on 13 attempts) in the loss at Loyola Chicago. She knocked down 3-of-7 from behind the arc and 6-of-8 at the free throw line.
BEACHUM COMMITS THEFT AT LOYOLA CHICAGO
Senior Brechelle Beachum recorded a career-high six steals in the loss at Loyola Chicago. She also netted 16 points and grabbed six boards to tie a season-high.
FOUR-POINT SECOND QUARTER
The Redbird defense allowed the first four points of the second quarter in the loss at Loyola Chicago, but Illinois State responded in strong fashion and held the Ramblers scoreless the rest of the period while scoring the final 14 points to enter halftime leading 31-22. The four points allowed in the second quarter was the least amount the Redbirds have given up in a stanza all season. Loyola did not score the final 6:32 of the first half.
OFFENSE SHOWING SIGNS
For the first time this season, Illinois State scored 70 or more points in back-to-back games in the contests with SIUE and Bradley. The last time the Redbirds scored 70 or more in three straight games was Nov. 18, 2012 - Nov. 24, 2012.
WHEN TIED AT HALFTIME
Illinois State moved to 2-0 on the season when it is tied at halftime with its win over Bradley. The Redbirds were also tied at halftime against Eastern Illinois and pulled away for an 11-point victory.
WINNING THE BATTLE ON THE GLASS
For only the second time this season, Illinois State won the rebounding battle, as the Redbirds held a 44-37 advantage on the boards against Bradley. Illinois State moved to 2-0 on the year when it holds the edge on the glass, with the other victory coming over Valparaiso when the Redbirds outrebounded the Crusaders, 43-39.
MAKING THE FREE ONES COUNT
The Redbirds went to the free throw line a season-high 36 times and made a season-best 26, including 17-of-21 in the fourth quarter and 9-of-10 over the final 67 seconds in the win over Bradley. It was the most free throws Illinois State has made in a game since tallying 20 in the 2015-16 home opener against Murray State when the Redbirds went 20-of-30 from the charity stripe. Illinois State is 2-0 on the season when they attempt more free throws than its opponents, with the other time coming against Eastern Illinois when the Redbirds finished 16-of-23.
BENCH PRODUCTION
Illinois State received 49 points from its bench in the games at SIUE and at home versus Bradley, including a season-high 27 against SIUE. The Redbird bench has scored 20 or more points three times this season, producing a record of 1-2.
SPEAKING OF BENCH PRODUCTION
Sophomore Millie Stevens found a nice role coming off the bench since returning from an injury until returning to the starting lineup against Loyola Chicago. Over the two games prior to Loyola, she averaged 16.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game over 26.0 minutes per game while shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) from the field and 66.7 percent (10-of-15) from the free throw line. Against Bradley, Stevens led the Redbirds with 15 points, including nine in the decisive fourth quarter, grabbed eight boards and made a career-high seven free throws (on 11 attempts).
GREEN IS GOLDEN VERSUS BRADLEY
Junior Hannah Green produced her best all-around game of the season in the win over Bradley. She logged a season-high 33 minutes, netted 14 points and produced team highs in rebounds (9), blocks (3) and steals (3).
MISSOURI VALLEY (GATEWAY) CONFERENCE OPENERS
The Redbirds improved to 22-12 in conference openers and 17-10 in conference openers at home when they defeated Bradley last time out. Illinois State has now opened conference play at home nine-straight seasons and is 6-1 against the Braves in the initial conference contest.
PLAYING ON NEW YEAR'S DAY
Illinois State played on New Year's Day for the eighth time last Sunday, including a sixth time at home. Overall, the Redbirds are 5-3 on the first day of the year going back to Jan. 1, 2001.
OFFENSE BREAKS OUT
Illinois State scored a season-high 80 points – the first time the Redbirds have scored 80 or more since scoring 81 in the 2015-16 home opener in against Murray State – made a season-best 31 field goals (on 70 attempts), and their 44.3 field goal percentage was their second highest of the season when they played at SIUE Dec. 23.
BEACHUM AND STEVENS COMBINE FOR 44 POINTS, SET NEW CAREER HIGHS
Senior Brechelle Beachum and sophomore Millie Stevens combined for 44 points on 62.1 percent (18-of-29) shooting at SIUE, both setting career highs in scoring and made field goals. Beachum poured in 27 points, including 16 in the third quarter, and knocked down 11 buckets (on 18 attempts), including a career-high three triples (on five attempts), while Stevens added 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
BECKLES' BENCH PRODUCTION
Freshman Zakiya Beckles played extended minutes for the first time this season in the contest at SIUE. She came off the bench and provided a spark to produce season highs in points (8), field goals (3), three-point field goals (2), assists (2), turnovers (0) and minutes played (18).
CORRIGAN RETURNS TO STARTING LINEUP
Freshman Frannie Corrigan returned to the starting lineup at SIUE for her fifth start of the season and produced four points, five rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes. She was reinserted into the starting lineup, as sophomore Katrina Beck was under the weather.
BACK TO THE ROAD
Illinois State returned to the road for the first time in 24 days when the Redbirds played at Western Illinois Dec. 20, after having the luxury of playing four-consecutive home games to start December. The mini two-game road swing ended Dec. 23 in Edwardsville.
TALBOT TALLIES SEASON HIGH
Freshman Megan Talbot constructed her best overall game of the season at Western Illinois, as she led the Redbirds with a season-high 14 points to go along with a team-high seven rebounds. She also went a perfect 5-of-5 from the charity stripe, establishing a new season best in made free throws.
GAME NUMBER 100
Senior Taylor Stewart played in her 100th career game as a Redbird in the contest at Western Illinois, which was out of a possible 100. Head coach Barb Smith also coached her 100th game at Illinois State in the same contest.
GREEN THROWS "WELCOME BACK" BLOCK PARTY
Junior Hannah Green returned to the lineup in the loss to Milwaukee, after missing three-straight games with an injury. She made her presence known with seven blocks, the second most in the program's history in a single game, tying Nicole Lewis, who accomplished the feat Feb. 15, 2008, at Indiana State (the record is eight by Leslie Ferrell, Feb. 8, 1988 at Missouri State). Green also added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals. The seven blocks were also the most by a Redbird since Megan Grace rejected five Bears from Missouri State March 3, 2013. She followed that performance with four more versus George Mason to give her an average of 5.5 blocks per game over the two-game sample.
BECK BREAKING OUT
Before the game at Western Illinois, sophomore Katrina Beck had scored in double figures in five straight games, averaging 12.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game over the stretch. She was coming off a 14-point, four-rebound and two-steal performance while knocking down a career-high six field goals (on 11 attempts) in the loss to Milwaukee, before netting a team-high 12 points in the loss to George Mason.
LIVINGSTON RETURNS
Sophomore Viria Livingston returned to the lineup against George Mason and responded with a season-high nine rebounds.
BEACHUM DROPPING DIMES
Senior Brechelle Beachum handed out a career-high five assists in the loss to Milwaukee. She also added 11 points and four rebounds.
BECK NAMED MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
IIlinois State women's basketball standout Katrina Beck was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, presented by Eagle Bank and Trust Company of Missouri, it was announced Tuesday, Dec. 6, by MVC Commissioner Doug Elgin. Joining Beck was Loyola Chicago's Clayton Custer. The athletes were honored for their performances during the period of Nov. 28 – Dec. 4.
Beck averaged 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game while playing 79 out of a possible 80 minutes in the Redbirds' two games last week, which they beat Eastern Illinois, 60-49, and lost to Wisconsin, 64-46. Beck played all 40 minutes and scored 15 points while pulling down a then career-high eight rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals in the win over EIU. She scored 11 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, which the Redbirds entered down two, as they outscored the Panthers, 24-11, over the final 10 minutes. Beck also tallied her 200th career point in the contest as well. Against the Badgers, she just missed her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-best nine rebounds while recording two more assists and two more steals in 39 minutes. A standout both on the court and in the classroom, Beck owns a 3.89 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) as a broadcast journalism major.
To qualify for MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
STEWART NETS 500 CAREER POINTS
Senior Taylor Stewart scored her career 500th career point on a three-pointer in the third quarter in the game against Wisconsin.

POUNDING THE GLASS
Illinois State almost won the rebounding battle for the second time this season, narrowly losing the edge to Wisconsin, 48-46, after the Badgers held a 16-7 lead in the fourth quarter. Freshman Megan Talbot pulled down a season-high 12 (averaging 11.0 over the last two games), sophomore Katrina Beck grabbed a career-high nine (8.5 over the last two games), and freshman Frannie Corrigan also corralled a season-high nine boards.
TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK
Illinois State turned it over a season-low 10 times against NIU and was averaging only 12.0 turnovers per game over its last four, before turning the rock over 18 times in the loss to Wisconsin.
STARTING DECEMBER OFF RIGHT
The victory over Eastern Illinois allowed the Redbirds to start out December 1-0 for the first time in five seasons when they beat Arkansas State, 78-50, in Tempe, Arizona, Dec. 2, 2011.
BEACHUM BURIES THE PANTHERS IN CAREER GAME
Senior Brechelle Beachum poured in a career-high 24 points, including 15 after halftime, in the victory over the Panthers. Beachum knocked down a career-best seven field goals (on 16 attempts), swished a career-high eight free throws, as she went to the line a career-best 10 times, and added a season-high six rebounds to go along with two assists and two steals while logging a career-best 35 minutes. She also tied her career high in made triples with two.
KATRINA CARRIES THE REDBIRDS LATE
Sophomore Katrina Beck, who logged all 40 minutes, added a season-high 15 points, with 11 coming in the fourth quarter, a career-best eight rebounds, two assists and two steals in the win over Eastern Illinois.
BECK AND BEACHUM CLOSE OUT EASTERN ILLINOIS
Sophomore Katrina Beck and senior Brechelle Beachum combined to score 20 points in the final period, where the Redbirds outscored Eastern Illinois, 24-11. Beck made 4-of-5 field goals, including 2-of-3 from deep, while Beachum connected on 2-of-3 shots and delivered on all four of her free throw attempts. As a team, the Redbirds shot 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the field, 3-of-5 from distance and 7-of-8 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter.
STEWART SUCCEEDS ELSEWHERE
Senior Taylor Stewart, the Redbirds' leading scorer, was held to only three points against Eastern Illinois, but she handed out a game-high six assists and recorded a game-best four steals to tie career highs in both categories. She also tied a career high in minutes played with 38.
TALBOT AND CORRIGAN EQUAL GLUE
Freshmen Megan Talbot and Frannie Corrigan were "glue guys" in the win over Eastern Illinois. Talbot played 38 minutes and tied her season high in scoring with nine points and just missed a double-double with a season-best 10 rebounds. She scored five of the Redbirds' nine points in the first quarter, as they trailed by seven. Corrigan, meanwhile, finished with six points, five rebounds, one steal and one block in 36 minutes.
MORGAN MAKING MOVES
Freshman Morgan VanHyfte came off the bench at NIU and produced season highs of 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal while knocking down 6-of-12 shots, including 2-of-3 from distance.
OTHER FRESHMEN STEP UP
Megan Talbot led the Redbirds in rebounds (6) and blocks (2) against the Huskies and chipped in nine points, tallying season highs in all three categories. Frannie Corrigan chipped in a season-high six points and three rebounds, while Zakiya Beckles netted the first five points of her career.
SO MUCH ROBBERY
The Redbirds recorded a season-high 18 steals in the win over Valparaiso. Joining junior Hannah Green with four steals against the Crusaders was sophomore Katrina Beck, who registered a career high, and senior Brechelle Beachum recorded a season-high three. Eight of the 11 Redbirds who played tallied at least one. And against Yale, Beck once again tied her career high with four.

The win over Valparaiso moved the Redbirds over the .500 mark for the first time since finishing the 2012-13 season with a record of 24-11.
STEWART'S CAREER DAY FOLLOWS STEWART'S CAREER NIGHT
Senior Taylor Stewart poured in a career-high 24 points and tied the program record for most three-pointers in a game with seven in the win over Valparaiso. She made of 7-of-12 from behind the arc, setting new career highs in both three-point field goals and attempts, and finished the game 7-of-14 from the field, tying her career best made field goals. In the previous contest at UIC, Stewart tied or set a new career high in six different categories. She scored a then career-best 19 points, connected on a career-high seven field goals, tied a career best in field goal attempts with 15, swished a then career-high four three's, took a then career-best 10 three-pointers and recorded a career-high four steals for the third time in her career. Over the two-game sample, Stewart averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
GREEN GOBBLES UP VALPO
Junior Hannah Green produced a solid all-around performance in the win over Valparaiso. Not only did she produce season highs in points (15), rebounds (9) and steals (4), she held the Crusaders' leading scorer, Dani Franklin, to only seven points, 18.5 points below her season average.
STEVENS SHINES AFTER SLOW START AGAINST VALPARAISO
Sophomore Millie Stevens missed her first six shots against Valparaiso, but she finished strong, scoring a season-high 15 points while tying a career high in rebounds with nine.
LIVINGSTON STUFFS THE STAT SHEET
Sophomore Viria Livingston stuffed the stat sheet against Valparaiso with five points, a season-high seven rebounds, a career-best six assists and two steals. She also set the tone on defense with her ball pressure.
DRAINING FROM DOWNTOWN
The Redbirds recorded a season-high 10 triples against Valparaiso, their most in a game since making 10 against Bradley, Feb. 12, 2012.
TURNOVERS
The Redbirds took much better care of the basketball against Valparaiso and turned the ball over only 12 times. Illinois State's defensive pressure forced the Crusaders into 30 turnovers, which led to a 27-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
WINNING THE BATTLE ON THE GLASS
The Redbirds won the battle on the glass for the first time this season, 43-39, in the win over Valparaiso. Illinois State also held a huge lead on the offensive boards, 20-7, which resulted in a 16-4 lead in second-chance points.
BEACHUM RIGHT BEHIND AT UIC
Senior Brechelle Beachum also had a career night offensively in the win over UIC, tying or establishing career highs in four different categories. She netted a career-best 15 points, made a career-high five field goals, tied a career best in field goal attempts with 13 and tied her career high in made three's with two.
NONCONFERENCE ROAD LOSING SKID ENDS
Illinois State's victory at UIC ended a 15-game losing streak in true nonconference road games. Before Monday night's win, the Redbirds' last win on the road in the nonconference was Dec. 30, 2012 when they won at Butler, 65-57. Including neutral site games, Illinois State had lost 19 of its last 20 away from Redbird Arena, with its only win coming in a 68-64 triumph over Florida, Nov. 29, 2013 in the Bahamas.

Illinois State's win over UIC produced the Redbirds' second-consecutive 1-1 start to the season.

Illinois State dropped to 21-25 all-time in season openers, after falling at No. 18/16 Arizona State.
LONGEST ROAD TRIP
The season-opening trip to Tempe, Arizona, then to Chicago, Illinois, was Illinois State's longest road trip of the season in terms of days (5) and miles (3,652) roundtrip.
REDBIRDS PICKED EIGHTH IN THE MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE
Illinois State was selected to finish eighth in the 2016-17 Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Poll, announced Tuesday, Oct. 25 by the league prior to the start of the league's Media Day at the St. Louis City Center Hotel. The poll is compiled from votes by the conference's sports information directors, media and coaches. The Redbirds received 123 points in the poll, after finishing seventh last season when they were predicted to finish last.
Drake is the favorite to win the league, as the Bulldogs collected 392 points and 34 out of a possible 40 first-place votes. Northern Iowa is predicted to finish second with 317 points and four first-place votes, while Missouri State was picked right behind the Panthers in third place with 313 points and the final two first-place votes. Southern Illinois (306), Wichita State (248), Indiana State (199) and Bradley (141) fill out slots four through seven. Completing the final two spots in the poll after ISU is Evansville (109) and Loyola Chicago (52).
NEEDS REPLACING
Illinois State lost its top-three scorers from a year ago, who combined to average 30.5 points per game, which was 52.4 percent of the team's scoring.
RETURNING REDBIRDS
Sophomores Katrina Beck and Viria Livingston are the squad's top-two returning scorers, with Beck averaging 5.9 points and Livingston 5.5 points per game last season. Livingston led the Redbirds on the glass during her freshman campaign with 6.1 rebounds per game, and she is the top-returning distributor from a year ago with 36 assists, and steals leader with 33. She also set the program record for most offensive rebounds by a freshman with 78, which was good enough for the eighth-best tally in single-season history. Beck, meanwhile, looks to improve upon her team-leading 31 triples from a year ago. The duo also returns with the most starting experience from last season, combining for 47 starts. Each student-athlete played in 28 game, with Livingston starting 25 and averaging 29.1 minutes per game, while Beck started 22 contests and averaged 23.6 minutes per game. Senior Taylor Stewart is the most experienced student-athlete in the program, having played in all 90 games, including 30 career starts, with four coming last season. She averaged 5.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 21.2 minutes per game to go along with 35 assists, 27 steals and 26 made three's. Sophomore Millie Stevens (3.2 points, 2.8 rebounds) and senior Brechelle Beachum (3.0 points, 1.6 rebounds, 31 steals) also return and add much-needed depth. Both student-athletes made six starts, while Stevens played in 29 games and Beachum all 30.
NEW FACES
Out of the six incoming freshmen, three hail from the state of Illinois: Frannie Corrigan (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township), Morgan VanHyfte (Annawan, Ill./Annawan) and Megan Talbot (Barrington, Ill./Barrington). Zakiya Beckles (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex), Deja Turner (Tampa, Fla./Plant) and Amaria Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) are the other incoming freshmen. Junior Hannah Green (Santa Clarita, Calif./West Ranch (College of the Canyons)) is a junior college transfer from the state of California. Green will be a junior and averaged 13.9 points, 13.7 rebounds and 6.5 blocks per game, as she led the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) in blocks per game and ranked third in caroms per game.
ONE OF THE YOUNGEST IN THE NATION
With its roster consisting of six freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and only two seniors, the 2016-17 edition of the Redbirds will be one of the youngest teams in the nation.
REST OF THE NONCONFERENCE
The Redbirds will not have to travel far during the nonconference portion of their schedule, after starting the season at Arizona State. ISU plays its next 10 games in their home state, with six taking place inside Redbird Arena against the likes of Valparaiso, Yale, Eastern Illinois, Wisconsin, Milwaukee and George Mason. The Redbirds will have the luxury of only having to travel to UIC, Northern Illinois, Western Illinois and SIUE.

The Redbirds conclude the regular season next Saturday, March 4, when they travel west on Interstate 74 to Peoria, Illinois, to take on Bradley, with tipoff slated for 2 p.m. inside the Renaissance Coliseum.
