ST. LOUIS – Senior guard Paris Lee was named to the five-player All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team to earn one of six All-MVC honors awarded to Illinois State men's basketball players, the league office announced Tuesday.
Lee also earned a spot on the MVC All-Defensive Team along with fellow senior guard Tony Wills. Senior forward Deontae Hawkins and junior forward MiKyle McIntosh were each named to the All-MVC Second Team, and sophomore forward Phil Fayne garnered MVC All-Newcomer Team recognition. ISU's six All-MVC honors marked the most for the Redbirds since also earning six in 2002.
Paris Lee: All-MVC First Team, All-Defensive Team
Leads the MVC and ranks 29th nationally with 2.0 steals per game … leads the MVC and ranks 50th nationally with 5.1 assists per game … tied for first in the league in three-point field goals made per game, with 2.3 … ranks second on the team and 12th in the MVC in scoring, with 13.0 points per game … leads the team and ranks seventh in the MVC in free throw shooting percentage (78.8 percent) … is ISU's first All-MVC First Team selection since Jackie Carmichael in 2013 … is the nation's active career steals leader and holds ISU's program record, with 244 steals … ranks fifth in ISU career assists, with 471 … has started all 30 games this season, and with two more starts, will pass head coach Dan Muller for the program starts record … ranks 26th on ISU's career scoring list, with 1,203 points … is the second player in Redbird history to earn 1,000 points, 400 assists and 200 steals.
Deontae Hawkins: All-MVC Second Team
Leads the team and ranks ninth in the MVC in scoring, with 14.1 points per game … leads the team and ranks fourth in the MVC in rebounding, with 6.8 rebounds per game … leads the team and ranks ninth in the MVC in three-point shooting percentage (42.0 percent) … ranks second on the team and seventh in the MVC in three-point field goals made per game, with 1.9 … has started all 30 games this season … has reached double-figure scoring a team-best 25 times this season … has recorded a team-best five double-doubles this season ... has scored 938 career points.
MiKyle McIntosh: All-MVC Second Team
Ranks third on the team and 14th in the MVC in scoring, with 12.8 points per game … ranks third on the team and 10th in the MVC in rebounding, with 5.8 rebounds per game … ranks second on the team and 10th in the MVC in free throw shooting percentage (77.6 percent) … ranks second on the team and ninth in the MVC in blocked shots per game, with 0.8 … has reached double-figure scoring in 17 games this season … scored a career-high 31 points – the most by a Redbird this season – at Indiana State (Jan. 7).
Phil Fayne: MVC All-Newcomer Team
Ranks second on the team and seventh in the MVC in rebounding, with 6.4 rebounds per game … ranks fourth on the team in scoring, with 9.6 points per game … leads the team and ranks second in the MVC in field goal percentage (59.5 percent) … leads the team and ranks sixth in the MVC in blocked shots per game, with 1.0 … leads the team and ranks second in the MVC in offensive rebounds per game, with 2.5 … has led ISU in rebounding a team-high six times this season … has recorded a team-high 30 dunks this season.
Tony Wills: MVC All-Defensive Team
Ranks second on the team and ninth in the MVC with 1.2 steals per game … ranks third on the team and 12th in the MVC with 0.7 blocks per game … has played in all 30 games with 27 starts this season … has recorded double-digit scoring five times this season … has forced three or more steals in five games this season.
The Missouri Valley Conference regular-season champion Illinois State men's basketball team is the No. 1 seed in the 2017 State Farm MVC Tournament held at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The Redbirds begin play Friday at noon versus the winner of Thursday night's No. 8 Evansville versus No. 9 Indiana State game.
