ST. LOUIS – A total of 11 member of Illinois State's swimming and diving team have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference's Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced Tuesday.
Representing Illinois State on the team recognizing academic and athletic performance were: Casey Balson, Molly Hill, Rachel Holm, Yvette Kruk, Karley Licking, Laura Paskoff, Rachel Root, Savannah Rubocki, Alyssa Swanson, Kelsey Toland and Kristin Verkler.
The Redbirds honored were among a record 77 Valley student-athletes recognized. Southern Illinois led all Valley teams with 20 selections.
To qualify for the scholar-athlete honors, student-athletes must have completed at least one year at a Valley institution, and: own a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) and obtain all-conference honors, a 3.5 GPA and finish in the top 16 of an individual event at the conference championships, or a 3.8 GPA and participate in the MVC Championships.
