Redbird Swimming and Diving Fourth in Pre-Championship Poll

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team was picked for a fourth-place finish at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, which begin Wednesday, in a pre-championship poll of league coaches, the conference announced Thursday.

The 2017 MVC Championships will run from Feb. 15-18 at the University of Iowa Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium in Iowa City, Iowa.

Missouri State was picked to win the annual conference meet in the coaches' poll. Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa were slotted in ahead of the Redbirds, while Little Rock, Evansville and Indiana State rounded out the poll, in order.

"The MVC Championships are coming up fast," ISU head swimming coach Scott Cameron said. "The team has learned a lot, and made a lot of improvements throughout the season. It will be exciting to see them put it all together next week in Iowa City."

Illinois State head diving coach Phil Hoffmann is looking forward to watching his team perform next week.

"This meet will be deeper than in past years on the diving side," Hoffmann said. "Places 3-10 will be separated by just a few points, so making finals will be anyone's game. The divers are as healthy as we have been all year and I am looking forward to a great meet for the Redbirds."
