TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Illinois State men's golf team shot a 6-over-par 294 for the second-consecutive day and moved up to 13th place Saturday, after the completion of second-round play at Florida State's Seminole Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,172-yard Southwood Golf Club.

Penn State (-26), Florida State (-24) and Georgia Tech (-22) continue to lead the 14-team field. Eight teams are currently under par for the tournament. The Redbirds have a two-round score of 12-over-par 588 (294-294).

Sophomore Trent Wallace and freshman David Perkins both carded even-par 72s to pace Illinois State in the second round. Wallace shot a 2-under-par 34 on the front nine with two birdies and a 2-over-par 38 on the back with one birdie. Perkins shot a 36 on both sides, finishing with one birdie, 16 pars and one bogey.

Wallace is in a 29th-place tie on the individual leaderboard with a 1-under-par 143 (71-72). Perkins is two strokes back with a 1-over-par 145 (73-72).

Junior Zach Burry produced the third-best score on the Redbirds with a 2-over-par 74 (33-41), and senior Christian Crabill rounded out the scoring with a 4-over-par 76 (36-40). Burry fired a 3-under-par 33 on the front nine with three birdies and started the back nine with his fourth and final birdie of the round. Crabill finished with two birdies on the front and one on the back.

Junior Jason Marrs shot a 5-over-par 77 (39-38) and recorded one birdie, but his score did not count towards the team's total in the second round. However, Marrs has a 5-over-par 149 (72-77), which is the third-best score for Illinois State after 36 holes. Burry has a 152 (78-74) and Crabill a 160 (84-76).

"We are obviously disappointed that we haven't capitalized on good scoring conditions the first two days like most of the field has, but for us, it is not as far off as the scoreboard makes it look," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We have to stay focused and not get discouraged, and I am confident we'll get things going in the right direction as a team. Trent (Wallace) and Dave (Perkins) have been steady for us, but I believe we all have more in the tank."

The Redbirds conclude the tournament Sunday morning with the third and final round beginning at 8:15 a.m. CT.
