BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Illinois State men's golf team currently sits in fifth place after the first two rounds Saturday of Indiana's Hoosier Invitational at the par-71, 6,813-yard Indiana University Golf Course. The Redbirds shot an impressive two-round total of 8-over-par 576 (290-286) after strong, consistent play from all five golfers. Charlotte currently leads the field with a remarkable two-round total of 12-under-par 556 (278-278), followed by Bradley and Drake.
Senior Christian Crabill led the way for the Redbirds once again after shooting a 2-over-par 73 in the first round and an even-par 71 over the second 18 holes. His performance also included four total birdies in the second round, giving him a two-round total of 2-over-par 144 (73-71).
Sophomore Trent Wallace, freshman David Perkins and freshman Trey Tussey all shot 145s over 36 holes. Wallace shot a solid 1-over-par 72 over the first 18, followed by a 2-over-par 73 in the second round. Perkins carded a 5-over-par 76 in the first round, before bouncing back with an impressive 2-under-par 69 over the second 18, which included five total birdies and fell one stroke short of his season low. Tussey fired a season-low 1-over-par 72 to start the day, followed by a 2-over-par 73 in the second round.
Junior Zach Burry finished with a 146 (73-73), shooting a 2-over-par 73 in both rounds to conclude the scoring.
The third and final round of play will begin Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. CT.
