NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team will host Missouri Valley Conference foe Southern Illinois in the Redbirds' regular-season finale Friday at 4 p.m. at the Bloomington Tennis Center. Admission to Friday's match – and every match this season – is free.
"This is a special day each and every year as we celebrate our seniors on the team," said head coach Mark Klysner. "I know the guys will play even harder on Friday due to the occasion and will try to make this a special day for Dylan (Steffens) and Urh (Krajnc Domiter). SIU is very deep this year and have an excellent record overall, so it will be a very tough test. Regardless, we will enjoy the moment and do our best."
Southern Illinois enters Friday's match ranked No. 80 nationally with an overall record of 14-2 overall and a 1-1 mark in the MVC. The Salukis last competed against Eastern Kentucky, where they earned a 7-0 win. The last time the Redbirds competed against SIU was last April, with ISU narrowly falling, 4-3, at SIU.
Illinois State's two seniors, Dylan Steffens and Urh Krajnc Domiter, will be honored at Friday's match. The match was moved indoors due to predicted inclement weather.
