NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State gymnastics program was ranked among the top 10 programs in the country in team grade point average, as the Redbirds were No. 8 on the annual list of top team GPAs recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.
The Redbirds' cumulative team GPA of 3.6563 was fueled by 15 gymnasts that received academic all-America (3.5 GPA or above) honors from the organization. Â In addition, Kylie Meyer, Meredith LaRoche, Samantha Ward and Sarah Pollman were among 100 student-athletes recognized for perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA marks for the 2017 season.
"I am extremely proud of the young ladies on the gymnastics team and how they performed in the classroom this past year," ISU head coach Bob Conkling said. "Breaking the team GPA in the fall semester and continuing with excellent grades during the spring semester shows how important doing well in the classroom is to the team. Being eighth in the country overall was just icing on the cake."
A total of 78.95 percent of the Redbirds' roster made the annual list, which was the ninth-best team percentage overall.  Alyssa Bossle, Kristyn Bossle, Laura Jonas, Sydney Kennedy, Megan Knoernschild, LaRoche, Katherine Locher, Meyer, Demi Pas, Marissa Piper, Pollman, Jessica Rothman, Madison Solka, Ward and Alyssa Wiggle were ISU's student-athletes that took home NACGC/W Academic Awards.  Â
