Pence Named Best Defender at Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas – Illinois State's Courtney Pence was among five players to earn all-tournament honors at the Hampton Inn & Suites Waco North Baylor Invitational, Baylor announced Sunday at the conclusion of the tournament.

Pence tallied 85 digs over Illinois State's first three matches at the Baylor Invitational, averaging 7.73 digs per set. She also chipped in 12 assists and one kill over 11 sets. Her best performance came in Illinois State's five-set thriller against No. 15 Florida State, as she registered 41 digs, the third-highest single-match total in Illinois State history.

Other individuals recognized for their performances at the Baylor Invitational included: Baylor's Hannah Lockin (best setter), Camryn Freiberg (best blocker) and Shelly Fanning (best attacker). Florida State's Natasha Calkins was named the Tournament MVP.
