PEORIA, Ill. – The Redbirds' women's tennis team took home four wins on the third day of the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Illinois.
Throughout the Bradley Invitational, the team collected nine singles wins, six doubles wins and won two titles in their first tournament of the fall season.
Jana Kustkova and Veronika Golanova faced off for 1st place in the singles flight B final. Kustkova won by default, 7-5, 0-3. Ivon Mihaleva won her third collegiate singles match of the tournament, topping Northern Illinois' Abigail Dekkinga, 6-2, 7-6, 10-5, to win the flight C singles final. Jelena Karla Vujicic came up short to DePaul's Alina Kuzmenkova in the singles flight A final round for 7th place, 6-3, 2-6, 10-5. Laura Fitzgerald fell to Eastern Illinois' Abby Carpenter in the singles flight D finals, 0-6, 6-7.
In doubles, Golanova and Vujicic were defeated by DePaul's Marija Jovicic and Lenka Antonijevic, 6-4, in the flight A final. Also in the first flight, Kustkova and Mihaleva defeated Abigail Dekkinga and Thisuri Molligoda from Northern Illinois', 7-5, in the consolation final. Fitzgerald and Valerija Gercar clinched the Redbirds' second doubles win of the day by topping Western Illinois' Maria Bessmertnaya and Laura Ballesteros, 6-4.
The Redbird's will return to play, Oct. 7-9, for the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships in Normal, Illinois.
