NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State swimming and diving team will compete in a pair of meets this weekend, as they prepare for the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference Championships. The Redbirds will compete against the Evansville Purple Aces in Evansville, Indiana, Friday at 5 p.m., before hosting the Washington-St. Louis Bears at Horton Pool, Saturday, at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
The Redbirds are coming off a tie against Northern Iowa, finishing with a final score of 150-150. Saturday's meet will be the last for the Illinois State swimmers before the MVC Championships, Feb. 14-17. ISU's diving team will compete one last time, Feb. 3, at the UIC Diving Invitational before the conference meet.
"We are looking forward to our two meets this weekend against Evansville and Wash U," said head swimming coach Scott Cameron. "It will give us a great chance to get up and race back-to-back days against some really good teams. This will give us a great opportunity to continue to work on the little details that we've been putting an emphasis on as we come towards the end of our season."
Head diving coach Phil Hoffmann is looking forward to watching his team compete this weekend.
"This weekend will be a great test for us leading into the MVC Championships," said Hoffmann. "Back-to-back meets against two solid programs will help us prepare for the multi-day format at the MVC Championships. Both meets will challenge us in different ways and that's just what we need."
