NORMAL, Ill. - Redbird men's tennis will head to the ITA Midwest Regionals, Wednesday, Oct. 17 through Monday, Oct. 22, which will be hosted by the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
"This is one of my favorite events and a great achievement for the guys who get selected for the tournament. We are arguably in the toughest region in the country, so this event allows the guys to play compete with some of the best players" head coach Mark Klysner said. "We have five guys in it this year and I think we have a chance to make some noise in the draw."
The lineup for Redbird tennis will include Igor Kolaric, who earned a spot in the Oracle ITA Masters, after collecting the Summit League Player of the Year and the Summit League Newcomer of the Year in the 2017-18 season.
In his first season with the 'Birds Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe will represent at the ITA Midwest Regionals. Quispe maintains a 6-1 singles thus far into the season, where he advanced to the final at the WMU-Vredevelt Invitational and the Purdue Invitational, taking the championship victory at WMU.
After redshirting in the 2017-18 season, Diego Le Gal Perez was invited to compete at the ITA Regionals. Perez is 1-2 in singles this season.
Pol Botifoll Rius and Egehan Sertkaya will participate in the event, holding 2-3 and 1-4 singles records respectively in the fall season.
The ITA Midwest Regionals will take place at the Eck Tennis Pavilion in Notre Dame, Indiana and Lakeland Athletic Club in Niles, Michigan with pre-qualifying singles set to begin Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. CT.
Qualifying singles will be played out Thursday, Oct. 18 and Friday, Oct. 19 with the main draw starting Saturday, Oct. 20 through Monday, Oct. 22. Three rounds of qualifying doubles will take place Friday, Oct. 19 with main draw doubles to follow Saturday. Live stats will be available through StatBroadcast for the event.
