CHESTERTON, IND. – The Illinois State women's golf team made a statement at the Missouri Valley Conference Preview by taking third in the nine-team field. The squad improved their finish from last season, where they placed eighth of 11 teams.
Over three rounds, the Redbirds accumulated a score of 985 (325-322-338). Missouri State (324-318-327) and Bradley (320-323-328) finished first and second overall in the tournament.
Paige Seiser played an 8-over-par round in the third try on the course to secure a fourth-place tie. She finished with a 236 (78-78-80) and carded four birdies overall. Junior Becca Black carded a 14-over-par in the third round to bring her final score to 250 (82-82-86). Black accumulated three birdies overall and finished in a tie for 19th place.
Senior Caitlin Sims finished the tournament in a tie for 23rd place. She used three birdies throughout the tournament to finish with a final score of 252 (79-88-85). Emma Sutton finished 40-over-par with a three round score of 256 (86-80-90). The sophomore carried four birdies throughout three rounds to end in a four-way tie for 30th place.
Morgan Savage used three birdies over the tournament to end in a two-way tie for 34th place. The junior played 15-over-par in the final round to close with a final score of 257 (88-82-87). Individual competitor, Tatum King, played a final round score of 89 (+17) to finish in 42nd place. King's final score is 262 (90-83-89).
The Missouri Valley Conference Preview was a chance for golfers to play the course used for the MVC Championships on Apr. 14-16, 2019. The Redbirds have one tournament before the end of the fall season, and will continue action next Monday as the team competes at the Charles Braun Invitational on Oct. 22-23, hosted by Evansville at the Oak Meadow Country Club.
