SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Â The Illinois State men's tennis team picked up a doubles win Friday, Oct. 19 at day two of the ITA Midwest Regionals in South Bend, Indiana.
"I saw a lot of positives out of my guys today as we competed very well in each match. Doubles is something we know we need to work on a lot this fall, and it was nice to see both teams battle with big ten schools," head coach Mark Klysner said. "Egehan and Jorge played such a close match with Wisconsin and if not for a slow start, I think we could have won that. Diego and Igor impressed me so much in beating a national powerhouse team like Ohio State. It just shows we can play with the big boys."
Doubles partners Igor Kolaric and Diego Le Gal Perez earned a victory over Ohio State's Tim Seibert and Jacob Wareti, 8-6. In the round of 32, the pair fell by Youngstown State's Danylo Veremeichuk and Joao Garretto, 8-4.
Jorge Adair Bartra Quispe and Egehan Sertkaya came up short in a hard fought battle against Wisconsin's Osgar O'Hoisin and Jared Pratt, 8-6.
In the round of 16, Quispe dropped a singles match to Western Michigan's Peter Kuszynski, 6-4, 6-4.
Kolaric and Perez will compete in the main draw Saturday, Oct. 20 with play beginning at 7 a.m. CT.Â
