ST. LOUIS – Illinois State senior forward Phil Fayne has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon (Dec .17).
In ISU's overtime win over Cleveland State, Fayne scored a career-high 30 points, making 11-of-14 shots from the field, and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. Most importantly, his two free throws with 1.6 seconds remaining on the regulation clock sent the game into an extra period, in which the Redbirds out-scored the Vikings 13-2. Fayne also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots in the 11-point ISU win.
For the season Fayne is averaging 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game – both in the top-10 in the conference – while converting on 55 percent of his shots from the field (66-of-120). Additionally, he has made 58-of-83 free throws (69.9 percent) through the first 12 games, including 44-of-57 (77.2 percent) over the last eight games.
The Redbirds, now 7-5 on the season, close out the 2018 calendar when they return to action on Friday, Dec. 21, as the squad will travel to Orlando to take on the UCF Knights in a 6 p.m. (CT) tip-off at CFE Arena in the final game of the year.
