NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team defeated Northern Illinois 5-2, this afternoon, giving them an overall record of 4-1, so far this dual season.
The Redbirds went undefeated in doubles against NIU. One doubles Veronika Golanova and Jelena Karla Vujicic dominated T. Mouigoda and E. Youel, 6-1. Jana Kustkova and Ivon Mihaleva defeated M. Potsi and L. Slisko in two doubles, 6-4. Valerija Gercar and Laura Fitzgerald topped off the doubles point for ISU, crushing B. Walker and A. Dekkinga, 6-0.
ISU's Golanova fought hard for her one singles win against T. Molligoda, 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-4. Vujicic continues her winning streak in two doubles after beating M. Potsi, 6-3, 6-2. Three singles Kustkova put the Birds up 4-0 after defeating A. Dekkinga, 6-3, 6-4.
Four singles Mihaleva fought hard against E. Youel, but came up short, 6-4, 4-6, 13-11. New comer Estelle Vanthier added another win for ISU against L. Slisko, 6-3, 6-0. Fitzgerald battled against B. Walker for the chance to win six singles, but fell short, 2-6, 6-1, 10-8.
ISU heads into their next weekend, as they prepare to take on Missouri St. Louis and Western Illinois. The Redbirds will face Missouri St. Louis on Saturday at 12 p.m. and Western Illinois Saturday at 6 p.m. Both match ups will be held at the Bloomington Tennis Center in Bloomington Illinois.
