Green Goes Out in Style in 70-44 Victory Over Evansville

NORMAL, Ill. – Redbird Arena stood up and cheered as Hannah Green subbed out for her final time on Doug Collins Court. Green and the Illinois State Women's Basketball team finished the weekend strong, downing Evansville 70-44.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Redbirds came out of the gate ready to play, racking up a 10-point lead at the conclusion of the first. Green jumped for her final tip-off in Redbird Arena and put the first two points on the board for the Birds. Evansville responded with a layup from Kaylan Coffman, but this would be the only time the Purple Aces would tie. Illinois State fired back with a seven-point run and would not look back, leading 17-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The Redbirds opened the second quarter with five quick points with two from Simone Goods and a 3-pointer from Green. Evansville came within 10, but could not find their way around the Redbirds. Goods was unstoppable, racking up 15 points in the first half to lead her team to a comfortable 33-20 lead at halftime.

Illinois State remained dominant throughout the entirety of the game. The team was paced by Frannie Corrigan in the second half as she came in and put up a new career high of 11 points. Evansville unable to overcome the deficit and the Redbirds secured a weekend sweep, taking down the Aces 70-44.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Goods led all scorers with 24 points. The junior forward was just shy of a double-double as she grabbed nine rebounds.
  • Viria Livingston grabbed the most boards today with 13, which was a new career high for her. Livingston also tied her career high today, dishing out six assists.
  •  Corrigan added a new career high with 11 points, being the third Redbird to score in double figures.
  • Green finished the game with 14 points, seven rebounds and added another block to her tallying list.
  • Millie Stevens secured eight rebounds and four points in just eight minutes of playing time.
  • The Redbirds have now won their last five of six games and increase their overall percentage to .500.
  • Both teams had less than 10 turnovers today, each with nine.
  • Kerri Gasper led for the Aces with 21 points, six rebounds and two assists.  

STAT OF THE GAME

  • The Redbirds secured 28 offensive rebounds versus Evansville's one. The Birds also outrebounded the Aces 58-20.

What's Next
The Redbirds head to Iowa for a pair of MVC games against Northern Iowa and Drake, beginning at Cedar Falls on Friday against the Panthers.
