Normal, Ill. – The Illinois State gymnastics team travels to St. Charles, Missouri, to compete in a tri-meet against Lindenwood for the second time this season, along with No. 25 nationally-ranked Iowa State. The
meet will be held inside Hyland Arena on Sunday, Feb. 25, beginning at 1 p.m.
"We continued on working to polish up our routines this week to increase our scoring opportunities," ISU head Coach Bob Conkling said. "We look forward to showing those improvements."
The Redbirds earned their season-high team score of 192.550 last week against Eastern Michigan. Sophomore all-arounder Gabrielle Cooke posted a season-high score of 39.050, as she finished second. Cooke also tied for second on floor, with a score of 9.875. Freshman Kylie Meyer held a three-way tie for second place on beam, with a score of 9.725. Fellow freshman Savannah Remkus earned a personal best score of 9.675 on beam, where she tied for fifth place.
"This will be one of our toughest competitions this weekend with Lindenwood and Big 12 team Iowa State," Conkling said. "Our focus will be on our performances on each of our four events."
Lindenwood took on Minnesota and Northern Illinois last week in a tri-meet, where it placed third overall with a score of 193.600. Sophomore Ryan Henry tied for the best team score of the season on the uneven bars, with a 9.875. Henry also set a career-high, where she tied for the fifth-best mark in program history.
Iowa State took down No. 19 nationally-ranked Minnesota, Michigan State, and UW-Stout, which has brought them to 13-2 overall this season. The Cyclones earned their second-best team score of the season, with a 195.775. Senior Haylee Young earned a 9.900 on balance beam, where she tied for first place.
