NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team took their second loss of the weekend against Dayton, 3-4.
One doubles duo Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova captured a victory over their opponents Bridgham and Kilstofle, 7-6 (3). At two doubles Ivon Mihaleva and Laura Fitzgerald took the only doubles loss against Jade Kawamoto and Jackie Kawamoto, 6-4. Clinching the doubles points for ISU was Valerija Gercar and Estelle Vanthier defeating their opponents Pleiman and Delaney, 6-4.
Mihaleva was defeated by Jade Kawamoto, 6-3, 6-0, in four singles. Kustkova fell short to her opponent Kistofle in the fight for two singles, 6-3, 6-4. Coming through with the first singles victory was Golanova at one singles. She claimed victory over Bridgham, 6-3, 6-4.
In the fight for three singles Vanthier fell short to Jackie Kawamoto, 6-4, 6-3. Claiming another Redbird victory in six singles was Gercar, defeating Allen, 7-5, 6-3. Fitzgerald fought hard for her chance to claim victory over Pleiman in five singles, but fell short, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
ISU returns to play next weekend for another set of away matches against UMKC on March 3 at 1:30 p.m. and Nebraska on March 4 at 11 a.m.
