Normal, Ill. – The Illinois State women's gymnastics team will travel to Chicago for the annual Illinois Classic meet on Sunday, Mar. 11, beginning at 2 p.m. The Redbirds will compete against UIC, Northern Illinois and No. 25 nationally-ranked Illinois.
Last weekend, the Redbirds earned their season-best score of 193.600 against Centenary. ISU won the meet, followed by the Ladies who earned a score of 191.075. Senior Marie Priest posted a season-best score of 9.725 on beam. Gabrielle Cooke earned a career-high in the all-around with a 39.250, and posted a season-high on floor with a score of 9.900. The sophomore earned the Midwest Independent Conference Performer of the Week award for the third time this season due to her strong performances.
Illinois earned their season-high score of 196.700 to take first place in a tri-meet on Sunday, followed by Lindenwood with a 195.625 and Bowling Green State with a 195.325. Freshman Nicole Biondi won the all-around title with a career-high of 39.425, while also winning the floor title with a 9.900.
UIC competed against Michigan State last weekend, however the Flames fell short of the Spartans with a 194.275-194.075 finish. Kayla Baddeley and Mikailla Northern tied for first place as they both earned score of 9.800 on vault. Baddeley also had a solid performance on beam with a score 9.800, to finish in third place.
Northern Illinois defeated Western Michigan on Sunday with a season-high score and earned the third highest score in school history with a 195.724. Junior Anna Martucci earned a 9.975 on the floor, where she took first place. Senior Ashley Potts earned a career-high of 9.900 in the floor competition, and finished first in the all-around with a 39.275.
