NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team split the weekend after picking up a 4-3 win over Butler and concluded with a 7-0 loss to the UIC Flames.
One doubles team Veronika Golanova and Jana Kustkova fell short in a close battle to Lejla Colic and Georgie Sanders 6-4. Doubles duo Ivon Mihaleva and Laura Fitzgerald were also defeated by their opponents, 6-4.
In the fight for two singles Kustkova dropped to Sanders 6-3, 6-2. One singles Golanova fought to the finish, but was overcome by Colic, 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. Four singles Mihaleva also battled to a 5-7 score in her first set against Melika Leblanc, but Leblanc took the match as she won the third set 10-3. Estelle Vanthier competed for three singles and fell to Amelia Guevremont 6-2, 4-6, 10-8. Fitzgerald competed against Rachel Le Comber and fell in five singles 6-3, 6-4.
The Redbirds head to Portland, Oregon next week as they face Portland on Thursday at 8 a.m. and are scheduled to take on George Fox at 3 p.m.
