MOLINE, Ill. –Illinois State Women's Basketball concluded its season tonight as they dropped to the No. 3 UNI Panthers 56-36.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Megan Talbot opened the game for Illinois State with a layup to take the first lead. The Redbird defense held off the Panthers for nearly three minutes. UNI got on the board with a 3-pointer from Ellie Howell to lead 3-2. The Panthers went on a short run to power ahead 7-2 with 5:07 on the clock in the first. Simone Goods put an end to the ISU scoring drought as she put up two for the 'Birds to trail 7-4. Viria Livingston was sent to the line and added one more for Illinois State, but the Redbirds would trail 10-5 at the end of the first.
Northern Iowa netted a 3-pointer to open the second quarter and would push ahead 13-5. The Panthers shot 50 percent from 3-point land in the first half, going 5-for-10. The Redbirds faced difficulty overcoming the early deficit and trailed 32-18 at halftime. The 'Birds were led by Goods and Livingston as they added nine and seven points respectively at the end of the first half.
The Redbirds battled for a comeback in the second half, but could not find a way around the Panthers. Illinois State dropped the quarterfinal battle 56-36.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Goods was caught in foul trouble, but made the most of her minutes putting up 10 points for the 'Birds and grabbed six rebounds.
- Livingston added nine points, 9 rebounds, seven of which were offensive.
- The Panthers netted eight 3-pointers, compared to ISU's one made 3-point shot.
- Megan Maahs led for the Panthers with 15 points and seven boards. Kennedy Kirkpatrick followed with 10 points and two assists.
