NORMAL, Ill. – Bird Bits give Redbird Softball fans an opportunity to get an inside look at a handful of returners that will step back on the field in an Illinois State uniform in 2019.
We're midway through this five-week series, as we will be taking a look inside the life of Brittni LaFountaine, who will be a sophomore during the 2018-19 school year. As a true freshman, LaFountaine appeared in 23 games with 15 total starts, earning nine starts in the Redbirds' final 10 games of the season in the catcher position. She knocked her first career double at UNI on April 29, after tallying her first career hit, and scoring her first career run, against Indiana on March 10. LaFountaine finished her freshman campaign with 78 putouts and eight assists to go with a .989 fielding percentage.

Q1: Why did you decide to attend Illinois State?
A: I chose Illinois State because it is a good school, it's not too far from home and I wanted to play softball here.
Q2: What has your time at ISU been like so far?
A: My time here at ISU has been great! I have made new friends, figured out what I career I want to pursue and have been able to play the sport I love.
Q3: What has been your favorite part about being a Redbird?
A: My favorite part about being a Redbird is just being a part of the softball program.
Q4: Has anyone on the team, current or past Redbird, taken you under their wing since you've been here? If so, who, and how have they helped you?
A: I don't think any one specific person has helped me.
Q5: What was your biggest adjustment when you got to ISU? How did you get through it?
A: It was an easy transition for me. Nothing was too challenging, but if I had to say there was a challenging part, it would be learning what goes on in practice.
Q6: Are there any classes you have taken so far that you really like?
A: I really enjoyed my biology classes, but I am looking forward to start taking more classes associated with my major.
Q7: What made you choose your major and what is it?
A: I chose Conservation Biology, because I love nature and want to spend my life working on ways to make sure it is preserved for the generations to come.
Q8: When you aren't practicing, going to class and studying, what do you like to do?
A: In my free time, I like to watch history shows, draw floorplans and research different things that interest me.
Q9: Do you have a motto you live your life by? If so, what is it?
A: No Pain, No Gain
